Our primary objective of the Corporate Safety and Security System is to engage everybody in all areas of the company to manage the risks associated with all areas of operations and business so as to maximise safety and security for personnel and property

The Corporate Safety and Security System will, among other things, seek to ensure

  • The safety and security of passengers and employees, and where practicable agents or contractors of the company.
  • Compliance with applicable regulations are established and effective
  • Safety risks and security threats identified are addressed as a priority
  • The promotion of constant awareness of and vigilance towards safety risks and security threats and the reporting of any such identified risks or threats
  • The active promotion and operation of an open and honest reporting system as part of an organisational culture that has Safety, Security and Quality at the heart of the business
  • That all staff are engaged and committed to maintaining the highest safety and security standards in all company activities

 

Corporate Safety & Security Policy Statement

UAA is committed to meeting and exceeding its legal safety and security obligations. (Our ‘safety’ encompasses Operational Safety together with Health and Safety).

We recognise that effective management of safety and security is based on understanding, identifying and controlling risks. The development of an open safety culture and effective security awareness is considered essential to business success. The ultimate responsibility for safety and security rests with the CEO, COO and the Board of Directors. For this policy to be successful all levels of the organisation must accept their role and responsibilities in its implementation

 

Safety

As an integral part of its business activity, United African Airways will:

  • Implement and continually develop a Corporate Safety and Security System that will manage its safety responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate total commitment to this policy
  • Proactively measure safety performance.
  • Improve Safety performance year on year based on annual targets and the setting of safety objectives
  • Comply with all relevant legislation
  • Consult with employees on safety issues and enable the effective dissemination information

 

Security

As an integral part of its business activity, United African Airways will:

  • Ensure timely high-quality intelligence and strategic direction to ensure business operations remain secure, resilient and compliant.
  • Enable informed decisions to be made about threat and risk.
  • Protect assets against terrorist and criminal attacks.
  • Reduce crime opportunities and identify internal criminal activities.
  • Ensure personnel security and vetting arrangements are such that the risks posed by insiders are mitigated.

 

Management Structure, Safety and Security Responsibilities

Statement of Purpose

To set out UAA’s overview and the day-to-day management responsibilities and accountabilities for the delivery of effective safety and security management

Policy Statement

To ensure that all UAA employees understand the role they play in delivering the CSS objectives, it is necessary to set out clear accountabilities and responsibilities for all UAA employees from the top down. Safety and security management is everyone’s responsibility and is explicit. Accountability for the overall organisational structure within UAA lies in the first instance with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as the senior Accountable Manager.

This policy provides information on the corporate structure and the firm responsibilities and accountabilities that sit within that structure. Roles and Responsibilities

The Executive Management and Board of Directors are ultimately responsible for the safety and security performance of United African Airways. The CEO will lead, promote and champion safety and security. The management of UAA are also responsible for;

  • Setting out the frame and scope of the Corporate safety and security policies (CSSP)
  • The supporting standards and procedures of the CSSP;
  • The overall safety and security management strategy within the company.

Corporate Safety and Security Structures and Roles

Statement of Purpose

UAA will ensure that sufficient safety, and security specialists are employed to advise the Company and assist it in meeting its obligations. This policy sets out organisational arrangements, functions and responsibilities of the various safety, and security groups employed within UAA.

Policy Statement

It is necessary to employ sufficient competent safety, and security specialists to ensure effective management of these disciplines. These specialists will advise Management and assist them in meeting the Company’s legal and moral safety, health and security obligations.

  • Corporate Safety and Security is responsible for managing operational safety and security as a core business process.
  • Provides a hazard and risk identification service to the Nominated Post Holders and Line Managers
  • Works closely with them, to enable them to implement controls to the risks in their operational areas.
  • Corporate Safety and Security is independent and neutral in terms of the processes and decisions made.

Corporate Safety and Security advise Management on matters regarding safety and security and are responsible for coordinating and communicating issues within the organisation, as well as with external agencies, contractors and stakeholders as appropriate.

To assist the Nominated Post Holders and Line Managers to meet their obligations, safety, health and security departments have been established. These are listed below with a definition of their roles and responsibilities.

 

Cabin Safety Department Purpose

  • To research, review and produce an approved Cabin Safety Manual;
  • To develop, implement and review the cabin safety policies and procedures;
  • To promote the standards of excellence in passenger and aircrew safety, ensuring compliance with all procedures.

 

Health, Safety and Environmental Risk Department Purpose

  • To provide occupational health and safety advice to Managers across the business operations. This will allow UAA to manage its activities, legal and moral obligations and reduce the likelihood of occupational accidents, incidents, ill-health and litigation.
